I can’t lie. I’m really sore today. I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that I haven’t been running 4-5 days a week. The 18 mile run was tough on my quads and my calves are like rocks. (I HAVE to make it to yoga this week) I can’t even imagine what I’m going to feel like after the marathon.
I wanted to get to the gym today so I can get in my 5 days this week. (I’m a bit OCD about that) I also really needed to get in an upper-body workout so I knew I could go to the gym and let my legs recover a bit. I did about 25 minutes of weights this morning. Strictly upper body, chest, biceps, triceps, shoulders, back and abs. It was a little sluggish. I think my body is just worn out from yesterday.
After weights I headed down to the stationary bikes. I wanted to do an easy 20-25 min bike ride to just get my muscles warmed up. For most of the ride I was reading my book (that I need to finish for book club tomorrow night) so it was a low impact workout. My goal was to warm-up my muscles to do some serious leg stretching and foam rolling. I heart foam rolling even thought it hurts like (you know what). I spent about 15 minutes stretching and foam rolling, focusing on my IT Bands. I wanted to stretch longer but I do have to go to work so I had to cut it a bit short. It was nice to have a relaxing morning at the gym. No crazy goals, no set workout time or mileage, just took it easy. A mental break from training.
My foot is a bit sore today but I expected that after 18 miles. Considering I ran for 2 hours 38 minutes yesterday, it’s in good shape! I can walk on it (I couldn’t last time) but I will probably just stick to the bike until it’s good and rested. I iced it at my desk this morning which is always interesting for my co-workers. I’ll have to put up a picture of it at some-point. I use my garbage can to elevate my foot so people always give me strange looks.
